Into the Sun Tour: Day 10, Rainfall in OKC

You guys, last night I had a horrible nightmare. My friend was driving me around town and we found ourselves stuck in a lake. I panicked and got us both out of the car. Somehow, we were on the road again and my friend drove into another lake on purpose. I was so frustrated and pissed off and scared. I started drowning in my dream, and woke up startled.

Upon awakening, I see the rain outside my window. I had hoped it would subside before I got on the road, but of course, it did not. I had my last meal at the sister chain of Dempsey’s called Dempsey’s Biscuit Co which is a chicken and biscuits restaurant. These biscuits are homemade, everyday, the same with their jams, syrups, and gravy. They even homemake the sausage patties. You guys…… Unbelievable. The breading on the chicken… fantastic. The maple syrup… out of this world. The buttery biscuits and tart strawberry jam….perfection. It makes Roscoe’s taste like pure garbage. The freshness of every component was incredible. I was sorry to leave Wichita; it treated me well.

The rain got harder the closer I got to Oklahoma City. My phone buzzed with multiple flood warnings, which was unnerving. Even though it was one of my shorter drives, it was a big struggle and my body ached horribly. I’m sure the anxiety while driving in the rain wore me out too.

I had originally planned on camping in Oklahoma, but the rain killed that idea. I had no idea where to go, so I pulled over in Bricktown and agonized over trying to find a good place to stay. Airbnb and Overnight were not helpful and ended up being the same price as some of the hotels so I ended up booking one. The rain did not let up at all and by the time I packed all my stuff onto a wobbly bell cart, I was a soppy, wet, mess. But it’s amazing what a difference dry land makes. And a king size bed and room to yourself and a Harry Potter marathon on tv…

I had a good view of the city from my hotel room. It was a full moon that night and as soon as I saw it I was like, “Yep, that’s why I’m so wound up and exhausted.” It happens every single time, like I’m a freaking werewolf. Anyway, being dry and warm feels good.

I hope tomorrow will be a good day.
